Conclusions
The cost of gasoline has been growing continuously in recent years, and at the beginning of 2022, the process even intensified. However, with the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, prices unexpectedly fixed, and in some regions even crept down. This looks all the more abnormal against the background of general inflation and the record cost of petroleum products on the world market. Experts answered this question: Why is almost everything in Russia getting more expensive, except fuel?
"Oil up — gasoline down"
The main reason for the "gasoline stability" is the decrease in wholesale fuel prices. So, on the St. Petersburg International Commodity Exchange in the period from February 28 to March 5, the cost of various types of fuel fell within 9-12%, and in monthly terms, some types of fuel lost up to a quarter of the price. By mid-March, a number of quotations reached the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic, but then the world oil price was negative. Now it exceeds $110 per barrel, which has not been the case for eight years.
According to Rosstat, from February 26 to March 4, the average prices of motor fuel in Russia have not changed. However, in a number of regions, a slight drop in gas station prices was noticed, writes RBC.
There is no increase in fuel prices in the near future.
