The Decade Appropriations Report is a visual representation of the Budget Estimates of the Federal Republic of Nigeria over a ten-year period; the 2011 Budget was skipped because the source data was not legible enough to be imported into the Power Query of Power BI. The data was obtained from a public domain hosting the pdf content files from which the entire report was created - link is available on the INFO Page.
After the contents had been extracted and transformed into usable format in Power Query, the dataset was stored as an Excel file. Disconnecting the dataset from its original state ensured that the numerous transformation steps do not impact performance of the model.
Features of the 7-page report worth mentioning include bookmarks and overlays. The OVERVIEW page contains two overlaid pages that distinguish the Capital and Recurrent Expenditure as separate sub-reports. Details regarding the principles and practice of budgeting in Nigeria are provided in the INFORMATION page, which comprises three sub-pages. Budget Reports are more meaningful when estimates are compared against actuals, but in this case and due to some limitations, the actual figures were not available for a comprehensive representation. The model has been configured to work with the actuals when available.
The Power BI Community had been very supportive as usual. Of special mention, is the recommendation by @Guy-In-A-Cube that advised that, in place of individual cards, the matrix table could be modified into a single visual with columns serving as the KPIs. This trick was applied in the OVERVIEW page and the performance of the page was highly improved as a result.
I consider this report a work-in-progress and would appreciate every feedback I can get from you. Please endeavor to reply with your comments, observations, recommendations and/or criticisms.
