Use AI Skill outside Fabric
Hello,
It has been a while since the AI Skill feature introduced the Publish option, allowing integration with other Fabric workloads, such as notebooks. However, in the past, it also offered endpoints that could be accessed outside of Fabric.
I am currently attempting to perform an API integration with AI Skill, using LoggedUser credentials, but it no longer works.
I understand that AI Skill is in preview, and changes may be introduced at any time. Nevertheless, I would like to know if this feature (external access to AI Skills) will become available again, or how it can be made to work.
I followed the instructions provided in the Learn Path for Programmatically Accessing AI Skills, but it only seems to work with other Fabric resources, as if I try with the same Publish URL of the guide it works in the Notebook but do not works outside, with a 404 response in the call.
Can anyone give me any suggestion? There're any other endpoint route to access to?
Hi frdeange,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.Currently, AI Skill is in preview, and as you mentioned, features and functionalities can change. The external access to AI Skills might have been restricted or modified in recent updates. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
- Please ensure that the necessary tenant settings are enabled. Specifically, verify that the Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service and Users can create and share AI skill item types (preview) settings are enabled.
For your reference:
1. AI skill tenant settings (preview) - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
2. Known issue - AI skill creation fails when tenant settings restricted to security groups - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn - You can refer to the latest documentation on AI Skill sharing and permission management. This provides updated guidelines on sharing AI Skills within Fabric and managing access permissions. However, external access via API endpoints is not explicitly mentioned, so it may not be currently supported
- The 404 response indicates that the endpoint might not be accessible outside of Fabric. This could be due to changes in how endpoints are managed or accessed. Double-check if there are any updated endpoints or additional steps required for external access.
If this information is helpful, please Accept it as a solution and give a "kudos" to assist other community members in resolving similar issues more efficiently.
Thank you.- Please ensure that the necessary tenant settings are enabled. Specifically, verify that the Copilot and Azure OpenAI Service and Users can create and share AI skill item types (preview) settings are enabled.
