Hello,
I’m trying to set up a custom live pool in Microsoft Fabric, but I’m stuck on the last step.
I was able to create a custom pool at the workspace level, and I can select that pool inside an Environment on the Compute tab, but I don’t see any of the live pool configuration options at all. It’s basically like the live pool feature doesn’t exist on the environment side.
For example, I expected to see options related to configuring or enabling the pool as a live pool, but nothing shows up beyond just selecting the pool.
I’ve been following these docs:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-engineering/custom-live-pools-overview
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-engineering/custom-live-pools-configure
I’ve also verified all the prerequisites:
Workspace is on a paid Fabric capacity
I have Admin role in the workspace
I have a published Fabric environment
Additional things I’ve tried:
Created new environments from scratch
Upgraded the environment to Runtime 2.0
Confirmed I can select my custom pool in the Compute tab
Enabled Autoscale and set minimum nodes to at least 2 on the custom pool
But still, I don’t see any settings or options related to configuring it as a live pool.
Any thoughts on something I might be doing wrong?
Hello;
It sounds like you have already checked most of the prerequisites. One thing to verify is whether Custom Live Pools are fully enabled in your region and capacity. Some Fabric features are still rolling out gradually, and in certain regions the live pool configuration options may not yet appear even if the pool can be selected in the Environment compute settings.
Another point to check is whether the Environment is actually attached to a notebook session or workload that supports live pools, since some options only appear once the environment is used in a compatible item.
If everything looks correct, it might also be worth confirming that your capacity SKU supports custom live pools, or opening a support ticket, as this could be related to a feature rollout or UI limitation.
Hi @bbusby16 ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community Forum.
A custom pool does not get explicitly enabled as a live pool in the Environment UI. Once you assign a properly configured custom pool (autoscale on, minimum nodes set, supported runtime, Fabric capacity) under the Compute tab, it is implicitly treated as a live pool. There is no separate toggle or additional configuration section, even though the docs can make it sound like there is.
So, your setup already covers the required steps. The only way to confirm it’s functioning as a live pool is by behavior, sessions should attach quickly to warm nodes instead of triggering fresh spin up each time. If that isn’t happening, it’s likely a feature rollout or tenant level issue, not a misconfiguration and raising a Microsoft Support ticket would be the right next step.
