can't import a semantic model into Power BI Desktop
- 11 months ago
yes that 1m row cap is a known limitation when importing a fabric semantic model into PBI desktop in Import mode, it is imposed by the XMLA endpoint query result size limit
To work around, you can try the below:
Reduce the dataset size by filtering or aggregating before import.
Use DirectQuery to the XMLA endpoint instead of full import (lets you query metadata via DAX Studio or Tabular Editor without pulling all data).
Upgrade to a paid fabric capacity (F-SKU) -> larger capacities allow higher XMLA query result limits.

Thanks, to solve the 1 mn row limite, I managed to create an aggregation query in Power Query.
