We have a Synapse Analytics Workspace that have Pipelines, Notebooks, Sql scripts, Lake database, SQL database, Data flows. We want to uplift to Microsoft Fabric. Is there a straight forward way to do it or I have to manually recreate everything in Microsoft Fabric. Thanks
Solved! Go to Solution.
It is not a straight forward way :

In some cases, manual interventions needs to be done
Hello @max_mrc ,
There isn’t a native, end-to-end way today to directly uplift an entire Azure Synapse workspace to Microsoft Fabric without significant manual effort—especially for pipelines and orchestration.
However, this migration does not need to be fully manual. We’ve built a solution specifically to accelerate Synapse/ADF pipeline migration to Fabric, helping teams drastically reduce rebuild time and migration risk while reusing existing logic where possible.
If you’re planning a Fabric uplift and want a faster, proven migration path, I’d recommend a quick demo to see how this works in practice.

Agree with @NandanHegde. Not a straight forward way to do Synapse Analytics. Manual efforts required.

Thanks for your reply. I will wait If someone share their personal experience about how they did it. Thanks
Hi @max_mrc ,
You can consider Spectral Core for migrating synapse warehouse to fabric.
https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/spectralcore.sqltran?tab=overview
1. Data Migration From Synapse Dedicated pool
Option 1:
Managed table - you can use copy activity to move to lakehouse/warehouse
Unmanaged table - Copy data to onelake using spark or copy activity and write to lakehouse
Option 2:
Spectral Core
Option 3:
AzCopy, Azure storage explorer
2. Schema Migration From Synapse Dedicated pool
Option 1:
Export dacpac file from synapse dedicated pool and use MS Fabric Migrate(Preview) option to push to warehouse
Option 2:
Spectral Core
3. Synapse pipeline Migration
You need to recreate your SHIRs as OPDGs and virtual network enabled Azure IRs as Virtual Network Data Gateways.
You need to recreate pipelines, connections.
4. Notebook Migration
Spark version to be same.
Manually change the folders as Fabric doesn't support folders in notebook
Option 1:
you can export notebooks from Azure Synapse (.ipynb) and import them to Fabric (manually).
Option 2:
you can use a script to export notebooks from Azure Synapse and import them to Fabric using the API. You can refer semantic link labs.

Hi @max_mrc ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
I would also take a moment to thank @NandanHegde , for actively participating in the community forum and for the solutions you’ve been sharing in the community forum. Your contributions make a real difference.
As mentioned by NandanHegde , there’s currently no fully automated uplift path from Synapse Analytics Workspace to Microsoft Fabric, and some components may require manual recreation or adaptation.
Regards,
Community Member.
