Shortcut limitations

Does anyone know what this means?

"The maximum number of shortcuts in a single OneLake path is 10."

This is from Unify data sources with OneLake shortcuts - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

At first I thought it might mean that you can only create 10 shortcuts from a single table. But that's not it.  I just created 15 shortcuts to the same table as a test.

Now I think it means that the depth of shortcut to shortcut traversal has a max of 10.  Meaning that if I created a shortcut to a shortcut, and then a shortcut to that shortcut, the maximum depth of the traversal is 10 (i.e. a shortcut to a shortcut to a shortcut to a shortcut...).  If that's true, the limit seems reasonable because lord help you if you create an architecture like that :-).

    Hi dwpurdy ,

    Your understanding is correct.

The limit of “The maximum number of shortcuts in a single OneLake path is 10.” refers to the depth of shortcut traversal.

So if you create shortcuts to shortcuts and continue in this mode, you can go up to 10 levels deep.

This limit helps maintain manageability and performance and prevents the structure of shortcuts from becoming too complex.

I don't think the accepted answer is correct, I am only able to create 5 levels of shortcut-to-shortcut. This lines up with the limitation The maximum number of direct shortcuts to shortcut links is 5.
