OneLake file explorer - can't delete temp files
I'm using the OneLake file explorer and I'm having an issue where I open an excel file that is saved in the Files folder in a lakehouse, it creates a .tmp file that I can't delete. These .tmp files build up over time. How can I delete these?
OneLake sets it status as 'sync pending' or whatever, but it never syncs. When I try to delete it, I get the error '0x080070179: the file is not in sync with the cloud'.
Obviously it seems like a good idea to not let you delete a file before it gets synced up, but if it's a file type that the cloud will never sync, then it's stuck forever in the 'sync pending' status and can't be deleted.

Hi, what I did when I encountered this issue is close the onelake icon next to my clock at the bottom right. Then delete the file. Then, open the onelake again. I don't recommend openning the file in the OneLake as its create temporary file and messed up the sync of all the files.

Hi @rowrowrow2 ,
Thanks for the reply from @kirah2128 .
According to your description, the reason why the temporary files cannot be deleted is that synchronization cannot be performed.
.tmp files are usually temporary files that are created during data processing or when new files are written or updated. They can be used for various purposes, such as ensuring data integrity.
Try to delete the .tmp files. If automatic synchronization still cannot be performed, you can try manual synchronization. You need to right-click the item or subfolder in Windows File Explorer and select Synchronize from OneLake.
For more information on this, please see:
Access Fabric data locally with OneLake file explorer - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
If manual synchronization also has problems, you can check the client log.

Yang

I've tried to delete them and tried to manually sync them, but nothing works, nothing changes.
Your second link is to OneDrive, which has many options that are not available in the OneLake data explorer and so irrelevant to the situation.
