Fabric Shortcut based on a view

Hello,

Can I create a shortcut in worskpace A based on a view created in workspace B?

Looks like only the actual tables/files in the lakehouse can be shortcut sources but would like to see if anything I miss or workaround.

Thank you in advanced.

Hi @schou,

I mean the source is data warehouse from other workspace, when you use Lakehouse as source, it only lists the table and files.
If you are not so sure how to move data, you can create a dataflow or data pipeline to move data from Lakehouse to the data warehouse which hosted in the same workspace.
Then you can create a data pipeline to move data from another workspace warehouse to the current workspace Lakehouse. (when you choose warehouse as source, it will detect the list of all the tables and views under the table option.

Hi @schou,

You can create a data pipeline with 'copy data' activity from 'workspace B' data warehouse views and output destination to the lakehouse table in 'workspace A' to achieve your requirement.

@Anonymous Hi Xiaoxin,

I was trying to do so but found only 'table' and 'file' were available for the source (root folder)

Not sure if I am doing it right..

Hello,

Apologies to reopen this thread. I am still having issue when 'Copy data from lakehouse to warehouse'. So in this step, I cannot see 'views' as an object in data source. There is only tables showing up in data source.

Not sure if I miss anything?

Thank you!!

Your understanding is correct as only files/tables can be leveraged for shortcut creation and not the views.

You would have to materilize the views as tables for you to use that as a shortcut as of today

@NandanHegde thanks for confirming!

what would you suggest to do to make the views as tables?

There are data pipelines which can connect to lakehouses and you can map that as a table
