Fabric Capacity Monitoring App Not Working

I need to see the compute and storage used by the various dataflows, semantic models, notebooks, etc that our users are creating in Fabric.

I've installed the Fabric Capacity Monitoring App but it doesn't work. The dropdown selector for capacities correctly lists all our capacities we have deployed, but the charts in the report show no data.

The error is as follows:

Error fetching data for this visual

Error obtaining data location. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

The connection configuration looks correct

I installed this app quite some time ago - looking at historical refreshes shows all successes.

My account I'm accessing this with has a powerbi PPU license attached to it.

The microsoft fabric capacity monitoring workspace has a settings area: under license config i've tried the following license types:

- pro (this was the default)

- capacity, and i can confirm it is using a capacity that is not being throttled

- premium per user

  • cailen_cg The app relies on a properly configured semantic model to display metrics. If this configuration is incorrect, visuals may fail to load.
Verify that the semantic model credentials are correctly configured and ensure that the semantic model is refreshed regularly to reflect updated metadata.

Ensure your account has admin privileges for the capacity being monitored.

The app uses DirectQuery for most visuals, but some data (e.g., capacity lists) may require periodic refreshes.

Manually refresh the dataset in Power BI Service by navigating to Datasets > Refresh Now.
Check historical refresh logs for errors, even if they show as "successful"

If nothing works , please delete and reinstall the app.

Hmm?  That semantic model queries Kusto directly. There are no refreshes.

The dimension tables in the semantic model are Import mode. So it needs refreshing.

      The fact tables are DirectQuery.

But if nothing else works, I would also try deleting and re-installing the app.

  • Hi cailen_cg ,

Are you a capacity administrator of the capacity you are looking at?

Also, you can try deleting the app and installing it again (this worked once when we faced a issue in the Capacity Monitoring app).

OK, so when will Microsoft fix that?
