Error when trying to create a dashboard in Fabric with data contained in a table of a KQL database
- 1 year ago
Hi JH-Fabrico ,
Thank you for the update. It’s great to hear that you were able to create a real-time dashboard successfully.I followed the same steps using the same dataset and was able to add a tile from a queryset successfully without encountering any errors. I have attached screenshots for reference.
1. Add a tile
2. KQL Query
3. Run the Query
4. After Applying changesSince the issue persists on your end, please try the following:
- Run the same query in a separate KQL editor to check for any errors.
- Clear your browser cache or try a different browser/incognito mode.
- Ensure there are no network restrictions that might be affecting the query execution.
If the issue continues, could you share the exact query you used and any additional error details. This will help us investigate further.
Hope this helps.

Hi JH-Fabrico ,
Thank you for reaching out regarding the error you encountered while creating a real-time dashboard.
The error message "Failed to fetch data source schema. Unknown error" generally points to issues with the data source or configuration. Please consider the following:
-
Ensure that the connection to your data source is properly configured. Double-check the credentials and connection string to ensure they are correct, and confirm that the data source is accessible.
Could you also confirm if you're using the same sample data source provided in the documentation or a different one? -
Confirm that you have the necessary permissions to access the schema of the data source. If you're working in a shared environment or with a managed dataset, please ensure that you have the appropriate access rights.
-
Make sure the schema of the data source is correctly defined and available for use in your workspace. If you're using a real-time data source, confirm that it supports the necessary streaming capabilities.
For users to create real-time dashboards, it’s important that the relevant settings are enabled at the tenant level. Please ensure the following:
The real-time data feature must be enabled in your tenant settings. If you have admin access, navigate to the Admin Portal and enable the Users can create Real-Time Dashboards.
Please refer these links for additional details:

Once these settings are correctly configured, you should be able to create and manage real-time dashboards.
If you continue to experience issues, please share any additional details or error logs to assist further in troubleshooting.
