Dataflow Gen2 Refresh Failure – On-Prem SQL to Fabric Lakehouse

Hello everyone,

I’ve set up a Dataflow Gen2 to transfer data from an on-premises SQL Server database to a Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse. While the dataflow creation process completed successfully, the refresh operation failed.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue and found a resolution? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,
Al

Hi @Alaahady ,

Thanks for posting your query in the Microsoft Fabric Community. If you encounter a Dataflow Gen2 refresh failure when transferring data from an on premises SQL Server to a Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse.

Here are a few ideas to help resolve this issue.

1. Ensure you are using the Standard On Premises Data Gateway rather than the Personal version. The gateway should be installed on a machine with direct access to your SQL Server, and it’s best to use the latest version for compatibility with Fabric.

2. After installing the gateway, sign in with your Fabric account to register it with your credentials. In your Fabric workspace settings, navigate to Manage connections and gateways and create a new connection.

3. Select the on premises option, provide the SQL Server and database information, and use Basic authentication with valid credentials.

4. Also, confirm that the account being used has the necessary read permissions on the source data. If you continue to receive credential errors during refresh, try re authenticating in the Dataflow settings, as credentials may not always persist after publishing. Updating them can often resolve these issues.

Lastly, verify that the gateway can connect to Fabric services by checking that your firewall permits outbound traffic through the required ports and that the machine has access to the necessary domains.
