DP 700 Exam Prep
Hi T_M,
Three weeks is still a good amount of time to prepare. I would combine the official DP-700 resources with regular hands-on practice in Fabric.
I've put together a structure that may help you.
Week 1: Review the exam scope and identify gaps
I would start with the current DP-700 study guide and work through each section of the skills measured.
I would then take the free Microsoft Practice Assessment and use the results to identify the topics that need more attention.
For each weaker area, I would return to the relevant Microsoft Learn modules and documentation rather than only reviewing the assessment answers.
Week 2: Focus on hands-on practice
I would also build a small end-to-end Fabric solution that includes:
- Ingesting data into a Lakehouse or Warehouse
- Transforming data with a notebook, pipeline or T-SQL
- Implementing an incremental load
- Orchestrating activities and dependencies
- Handling failures and monitoring pipeline runs
- Configuring workspace and data access
- Comparing when to use a Lakehouse, Warehouse, notebook, pipeline, Dataflow Gen2 or shortcut
I find that this helps me connect the individual exam topics to a practical architecture, rather than treating each topic as something completely separate.
The official DP-700 Microsoft Learn course is also a useful resource for working through the main data-engineering areas covered by the certification.
Week 3: Consolidate and practise
I would retake the Practice Assessment and review the explanation for every question, including the ones answered correctly.
I would also try the Microsoft exam sandbox to become familiar with the exam interface, navigation and question formats.
During the final few days, I would focus mainly on the areas where I still felt less confident.
The resources I would prioritise are:
- Official DP-700 study guide
- DP-700 certification and Practice Assessment page
- Official DP-700 Microsoft Learn course
- Microsoft exam preparation guidance and sandbox
- Microsoft Exam Readiness Zone
Community videos and practice questions can also be helpful, particularly when a topic is difficult to understand from the documentation alone. I would just compare the material with the current study guide, as Fabric features and exam objectives can change over time.
My own readiness check would be whether I can explain the trade-offs between the main Fabric data-engineering components and troubleshoot a failed ingestion or transformation workflow, rather than only recognising definitions.
Good luck with your preparation and exam!
