Very interesting to see this zero-copy approach between Microsoft Fabric (OneLake) and Azure Databricks, moving closer to a true multi-engine single source of truth.
It reduces reliance on ETL duplication, lowering complexity, cost, and latency.
That said, the current read-only limitation and cross-platform governance (Unity Catalog vs Fabric) remain key challenges.
Performance will also depend heavily on data design and workload patterns.
Strong potential for hybrid BI/Data Science teams sharing the same data without duplication.
