Hi,
I am using the Power BI Desktop RS version. In a report, I have a visualization table with two columns. I want the definition to be displayed when users hover over the columns with the mouse pointer. How can I do this?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi @Learner22 ,
Power BI may not be able to implement your needs directly, but it can be done indirectly through other methods, you can add buttons and modify comments for each column header, as described in the following articles:

Hi, thanks for the detailed step by step instruction. However, at point 2, i do not see Field Value when clicking on Types under Tooltips. It shows only 2 options, default and Report page. ☹️ My visual is a table and PBI desktop version is from 2025 Jan (Version: 2.139.1678.0 64-bit (January 2025)). What did i do wrong?
It's not working because @123abc generates his answers with Chatgpt without reviewing them.
There is no Type option under field value. Only Default and Report Page. You can not choose specific column for either of these.
Hi, thanks for the above solution, but I cannot see "Type" as "Field Value" in my Matrix visualization's tool tip option. Can you please help me what can be the reason? I am using Microsoft July'24 version.
Hi, I'm attempting to add different tool tips to the same visual depending on the column, but I don't have a Type = Field Value under tool tips, it's Default or Report Page only. Is there another way to accomplish this? I was thinking of adding another table that can be used to create separate Report pages but I can't figure out how to assign a different tool tip at the column level of my table as opposed to the visual as a whole.
@123abc Your answer is exactly what I need to solve my current issue. However, under Options>Type I don't seem to have the "Field Values" option. I just updated to the latest version and still don't see it. Any thoughts on how to get it to appear? Thanks!

Ah! Thanks. That solves a mystery.
Thank you very much for your reply. Unfortunately, under "Type," the field value ist not available. I have the options report page and standard.
Hi @123abc ,Thanks for the quick reply, I may have other ideas.
Hi @Learner22 ,

Thank you for the help. Is it possible for the definition to be displayed when hovering over the column header with the mouse pointer rather than the values in the table?
