If I use only one semantic model, will unused tables impact the performance

Hi @gloulakis ,
Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
By unused tables, I meant tables that are present in the semantic model but aren’t used in any visuals, measures, or DAX calculations.
I understand that if these tables are included in the refresh, they will contribute to Capacity Unit (CU) consumption and may affect refresh time. Also, as you mentioned, due to the concept of expanded tables, some of these may still be involved in the query plan even if they’re not directly used.

How do you define "unused" ? If they are included in the refresh they will incur CU cost.
How do you define "performance" ? You would have to check the xmSQL queries deep in the bowels of Vertipaq to see if these tables may be part of the query plan despite seemingly being "unused". Remember the concept of expanded tables.
