How to Make Calculated Columns Available for Grouping in Power Query
Hi everyone,
I am learning PowerBI and having some trouble with making a calculated column available for grouping in Power Query. I have a calculated column: ProductPriceCategory that I created using DAX in Power BI. However, when I go to the Power Query Editor (Transform Data), I can't see this column there. Here’s how I created the column:
ProductPriceCategory =
IF(
[ProductPriceZscore] >= 2.5,
"Top category",
IF(
[ProductPriceZscore] >= 1 && [ProductPriceZscore] < 2.5,
"Premium category",
IF(
[ProductPriceZscore] >= 0 && [ProductPriceZscore] < 1,
"Standard category",
"Value category"
)
)
)
"when I go to the Power Query Editor (Transform Data), I can't see this column there" - this is correct behaviour.
You don't see DAX calculated columns in Power Query.
Add a custom column in power query instead
Power Query can't see DAX calculated columns. You can create that column in Power Query using "if-then-else" syntax.

Thank you very much for your response.
Am I unable to see the DAX calculated columns in power Query, because they are only performed after they are loaded?
From now on I will create a custom column and group it that way instead.

Seems that I used the wrong window within PowerBi, many thanks!
