i would like to create one line graph that overlaps equipment hours in the Y axis and volume on the y-2 axis (in order to seee any patterns) where the X axis is the day.
the day range to display, as well as the hours and volume, will be determined by a series of filter visuals on each of the two tables.
is this possible?

You can create a calendar table, and create relationip among the tables, then use line chart visual, it should can work.
You can refer to the following sample.

Volume
And there is a calendar table and there is 1:n relationship among the tables.
Then you can create a line chart, and put the following field to it.
