Carry over of open cases

Hello community ,

I have a question for you about: Carry over of open cases

Our group receive email about Pay issues and we track them until they are closed. Sometime the case are open (received) and closed the same month, sometimes months after. I have a graphic that represent for each month the number of cases open (received), the number of cases closed and the variance (open – closed = variance).

I need to add the carry over of the cases open to each month that are not closed.
So, the number of cases still Open (received) from the actual month (Example: Open in March – Close in March) + carry over of the previous month (cases still open from previous months).

My data are:
Tracking number (Example: D12345) for each case
and dates for Open & Close (Example: 2019-05-10)
I have a calendar too (day, month , year)

What will be the Measure that will give me the carry over of each month. We want to see if the number increases , stabilize or decrease.

I found different solutions in that community, but none of them give me the right answer or works in my situation.

Thanks for your help.

Sample data would help. Please see this post regarding How to Get Your Question Answered Quickly: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/How-to-Get-Your-Question-Answered-Quickly/ba-p/38490

That being said, what you want to do is to get the current month and year that you are in. You can use MAX for this. Then you want to FILTER ALL of the table for cases that are still open that were created before the month and year that you are in. Then you COUNTROWS that table.

See if my Time Intelligence the Hard Way provides a way of accomplishing what you are going for.
