Calculation Groups not available in direct query mode?

Hi,

In direct query mode, when I try out the recently introduced 'Calculation Groups' I get the following error:

Partition 'CalculationGroup 1' in table 'Calculation Group 1' has an invalid Mode. Partitions of this type must be in Import mode.

When I switch to import mode it works fine.

When I switch back to direct query mode, I get the following error:

Error The model cannot be changed to DirectQuery mode because table CalculationGroup 1 is a calculated table. Delete table CalculationGroup 1 from the model, and then change the model to DirectQuery mode.

Can someone please confirm that this behavior is by design?

I cannot find anything on this in the formal Microsoft documentation.

I am using SSAS Tabular compatibility level 1500 and VS 2019 v16.3.10.
