Hi everyone, I am investigating whether it is possible to lasso specific data points (stores) on a geographical map visualisation, and then the data models feeding into the dashboard can run on those selected data points.
Key questions:
I am aware of the rectangle select feature, but ideally we could use a freeform lasso to enhance flexibility and pull in all stores in the desired area. Is this possible via Power BI or any custom visuals such as MapBox?
Once the desired stores are selected in the map via either rectangle select or a freeform lasso, can the data models feeding our visualisations run on those specific stores selected?
Thank you!
Hi @CD01,
long time no answer but I would like to provide you a short response if this topic is still open.
1. Freeform Lasso Selection: Unfortunately, Power BI's native map visuals only support rectangle/box select, not freeform lasso. However, you have options:
2. Running Data Models on Selected Points: Yes! Once you select stores on the map (rectangle, lasso, or click), those selections act as cross-filters that automatically filter other visuals on the same report page. This happens natively in Power BI - your other charts/tables will update to show only data for the selected stores.
Important notes:
Try the ArcGIS visual as native PBI visual for the freeform lasso capability you're looking for!
See a example how it works below:
Best regards!
