GANTT chart 2.2.3 Expand icon not showing for all projects

For some of the nested projects in my GANTT chart (v.2.2.3) it does not display the icon for expanding / displaying the nested tasks. See screenshot. 

To unfold I have to use the Expand All function.

 

Is this a known issue? Or is there something in the data that is missing for these nested projects?
