Dataset

The data for this project was sourced from the World Marriage Dataset Kaggle dataset: https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/dataanalyst001/world-marriage-dataset

This dataset contains data from surveys, censuses and other sources to combine marital status information from around the world, going back more than 60 years. The dataset has approx 260k records.

Data Enrichments

• Additional columns were added to categorise the the Marital Status in broad terms for analysis. These were added manually in Power Query.
• An additional column to map countries to their broader geographic regions was also added manually in Power Query, using Google to search for appropriate country regions when geography knowledge failed me.

The Map

The map was built using the standard Power BI Map visual with a custom map definition file.

• The map GeoJSON was created using https://geojson-maps.kyd.au/
• And converted to TopoJSON using https://mapshaper.org/
