Instead of focusing on which countries perform better than others, I wanted to shift the perspective to what the Olympic Games represent as a whole and the role they play in the modern world.
This report looks at how the original spirit of the Ancient Olympics, bringing people together across divisions, continues to live on in today’s Games.
By concentrating on participation and long-term trends rather than individual success, it shows how the Olympics create a space where nations from all over the world can come together peacefully, momentarily setting aside some of the conflicts, wars, and differences to meet on equal terms through sport.
