Week1: City Livability Trends
The report explores 10 years (2015–2024) of fictional livability data for Briarport and 11 peer cities, focusing on how housing affordability, transit, green space, emissions, and overall livability evolve over time and interact with one another.
The approach combines trend analysis, peer benchmarking, and decision-oriented storytelling. Briarport is kept as the city in focus throughout the report, with peers used as contextual benchmarks (median and distribution) to highlight whether progress reflects true competitiveness or relative stagnation.
Visually, the dashboard is structured into three layers:
Executive KPIs at the top summarize current performance and 10-year change, using directional indicators to quickly communicate improvement or decline.
Comparative visuals (trend lines and scatter plots) reveal momentum, trade-offs between affordability and sustainability, and Briarport’s relative position among peers.
Investment strategy visuals translate gaps versus peer medians into clear, ranked recommendations, automatically generating narrative insights on where targeted investment would deliver the highest return.
The design prioritizes clarity, consistency, and interpretability, using a restrained color palette, clear annotations, and minimal clutter to ensure insights are accessible to city planners, policy analysts, and community stakeholders alike.
