Week1: Briarport Benchmark Report
Hi Everyone,
The core visual in this dashboard compares Briarport with other cities in Rivermere across key city planning categories. The goal was to make it interactive, allowing users to explore the data, compare regions, and follow trends in a way that feels intuitive and engaging.
On the second page, the trend analysis displays Briarport alongside other cities, allowing for filtering by region. This makes it easier to spot patterns and compare performance without overcrowding the visuals or losing context.
Finally, I added a short recommendations/insight section highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities based on my analysis, along with a ranking. This page is designed to be static to give city planners, policy analysts, and community stakeholders a quick yet meaningful snapshot for their discussions.
My Approach -
Everything was done on Power BI Desktop. I preferred using default visuals to not make it design-heavy, and rather focus on usability.
To avoid overwhelming users with excessive data, I ensured that the data was presented intentionally. For example, the summary page allows year-based trend filtering only for Briarport, keeping the focus clear. The second page is where users can deep dive into time-series analysis and cross-city comparisons.
Navigation is simple, with alt text and tab order added to support accessibility.
Overall, the aim was to maintain a balance between insight, design, and effectiveness.
