"👋Hi... I am a beginner data visualization learner. I joined this student dataviz contest because the magic world theme felt fun and gave me a chance to step away from the usual serious datasets. It inspired me to see how creativity and data visualization can work together. Since the story is set in a magical world, I chose a magic theme with purple tones to capture that feeling.
My goal was to design an interactive dashboard that lets students explore and discover their ideal college, major, or specialization in an engaging and intuitive way."
🧩Tools and Approach
I worked entirely in Power BI Desktop using a prepared student dataset, so I focused mainly on design and interactivity rather than heavy data cleaning or DAX. I explored different color palettes through online color tools such as color palette to match the magical theme and keep a consistent look. I used tables, matrix, bar charts, slicers, navigation buttons, and clear filter options to make the dashboard easy to explore. I also managed canvas interactions carefully and applied conditional formatting to highlight key insights and improve the user experience.
🎓 My storytelling and how I created this dashboard
I started by exploring the dataset and imagining myself as a student and thinking about what I’d want to see first. Naturally, I’d look for the top colleges and programs, then check costs to see which fit with my budget or other preferences.
1. College Info Page
This page gives an overview of colleges in Fabricland. Users can filter by major, kingdom, campus type, or difficulty to search the details of their preferences. Bar chart to compare tuition fees, student support, and facilities. column charts highlight top major by popular programs, while the comparison table summarizes tuition, scholarships, and ratings etc.
2.Program Details Page
This page focuses on programlevel insights showing popularity, graduation rate, and enrollment trends.
The detail table includes duration, difficulty, and possible career paths. I used slicers, clear filters, and navigation buttons to make it easy for users to explore based on their interests.
