PitchSide Pro - The Numbers In Play
Overview:
This report was designed to not only provide information but to prompt investigation, interaction and guide intuition while keeping things at a strategic, exec level.
They want to know what's driving revenue and where to look next, but if the data changed tomorrow a written solution would need to be manually adjusted. I've made as much dynamic as possible to ensure this isn't a factor. Rather the aim is to guide discussion while still bringing to light the key influencers and things to watch out for.
Format considerations:
- All visuals other than the Headers background, Pitchside logo and the main KPI svgs have been created within Power BI itself.
- This includes the toggle interactions which provide a smooth and easy to understand feel of what to do - all credit for how I learnt to create these goes to Bas Dohmen (How To Power BI) and his excellent resources for learning interesting visual design tricks and workarounds in Power BI.
- Header icons are retained only when that is the source of interaction or it's likely that an export would be requested of the data contained within.
- Consistent visuals and style choices provide cohesion to try prevent any jarring going from page to page
- Dense text is reduced as much as is possible to make it a more engaging product
- Accessibility has been considered, including tab order to make the report as wideley consumable as possible
What's actually in the report then?
The first 3 pages focus on the key aspects of the business
- Scorecard - an overview of the business for any selected year
- MVPs - what is doing particularly well
- Shots Missing - the business would know where problem areas are already, this page aims to keep the right questions in mind so that focus doesnt' slip
The fourth page (Test A Strategy) is a fully interactive score based system for execs to utilise during discussion on where they want the business to go from here. They adjust the 'weight' of what is important and will see different, and specific, products for customers in countries at a certain time of year rise to the top.
To keep things to just 5 pages I've included a single drillthrough page (In The Details) that, throughout the report, can be accessed to highlight specific details of what's making up the numbers that are being questioned. this gives a direct link to self-serve answers without asking a developer where information has come from.
Due to the limiation of 5 pages I have made the following concessions
- A single drillthrough page: Ideally there would be further drill through pages so that specific and exacting detail could be provided but I've tried to ensure that as much information, that is relevant, can be found and drilled down into across the report from the single page, an interesting challenge
- No custom tooltips: I was unsure on whether custom tooltip pages counted or not so I have not utilised any - in a real world scenario I probably would have
