This report explores the observed birds in Missouri from March 2015 through March 2025, using publicly available data from the eBird basic dataset from the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology. The report is built for self-service allowing users to slice and dice data to find trends and points of interest. Users can utilize the drill through on the map to get more detailed county level data.
On the summary page observations are mapped by the county they were observed in. On the drill through page the longitude and latitude of the sightings are used.
By analyzing this data, you’ll discover:
Data Source: eBird Basic Dataset. Version: EBD_relMar-2025. Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Ithaca, New York. Mar 2025.
Built only with Power BI Desktop. Only native visuals are used.
The most difficult part of this challenge was finding a data set to use with useful data. While many of the AI generated datasets have great fields to use the data, they generate is often uniform and not distributed realistically making any visuals and story telling difficult.
