I designed a KPI card that combines a clean executive summary with a sparkline for instant trend reading.
The card focuses on NET SALES and is fully driven by the slicers at the top (Month & Year). For the selected period, the card displays:
The main KPI value (Net Sales for the selected month)
A dynamic commentary text: “Net Sales increased by X% vs previous month”
The target for the period, with absolute variance and % variance
The last year value for the same month, also with variance and %
On the right side, I integrated a sparkline that shows the 12 months of the selected year, with:
A smooth line representing monthly Net Sales
A marker for the highest month of the year (green dot)
A marker for the lowest month of the year (red dot)
Month initials (J–D) for quick orientation
From a design point of view, I wanted the card to feel like a single, modern KPI component rather than a collection of visuals:
Soft background, rounded corners and subtle shadow to highlight the card
Clear visual hierarchy: title → analysis period → main KPI → supporting metrics
Consistent typography and color coding for positive/negative variances
Layout ready to be reused as a template for other KPIs (margin, spacing, alignment)
The goal of this project is to give decision-makers both the “what” and the “trend” in one glance: a strong KPI card for the current month, enriched with a sparkline to keep the annual context visible without consuming extra space.
