Hi everyone,
Here’s my entry for the Power BI DataViz Championship EU Edition.
The report focuses on two key goals:
Providing quick and accessible insights for journalists to help them kick-start their writing process.
Allowing a deeper dive into the data for more detailed exploration.
The report consists of five pages:
Home Page – A brief overview that gives a glimpse of what to expect.
Insight Page – A tool for journalists to quickly find insights across different datasets and regions. By applying just a few filters, journalists get a list of scenarios with dynamic key insights and visuals. I also included a sentiment filter that lets them choose the angle they want to write from (positive, negative, or neutral).
Population Page – A deeper dive into population data, showing how growth has developed over time.
Culture Participation Page – Insights into who is most active in cultural activities.
Happiness Page – More detailed information on life satisfaction scores.
The design is centered around the needs of journalists. For example, the Insight Page uses a two-column layout:
Parameter selection (topic and region).
Automatically generated visualizations — essentially a “first draft” for an article, with a suggested title and key insights.
The other report pages all follow a consistent design for ease of use, with:
Slicers to filter the data.
Dynamic insights that summarize key European averages (with expandable/collapsible details for a cleaner look).
Map visuals to highlight country-level differences.
A side panel with three visuals: one for regional comparisons, one for trends over time, and one table showing highest/lowest values to help uncover story ideas.
Small design details that might go unnoticed but add value:
Dynamic data labels in line charts (highlighting only the selected year).
Animated icons for a more interactive feel.
Customized data labels for map visuals.
Alt text and an accessibility-focused color scheme.
If you have any feedback, I’d love to hear it. And if you like the report, a like would mean a lot!

This is super cool, Specifically liked the Animated icons part.
