Dataviz Contest for Pros | Fabric Data Days: PowerBi Interactive Resume KTR

Purpose

I entered this challenge because I wanted to explore how data. The theme inspired me to use Power BI for personal learning, a career as a dataset and Power BI as the canvas to bring that story to life. My goal was to create an interactive resume that not only lists roles and skills but visually demonstrates growth, impact, and continuous learning.

What My Report Showcases

• Resume: A concise introduction about me and my abilities.
• Skills Dashboard (available by clicking on link button besides skills headline): Dount chart and map is attempt to capture locations.
• Experience trendline on main page (available by clicking markers): A detailed tables listing major projects, descriptions, technologies used, and roles played in each separate report page.
• Education (available by clicking on link button besides education headline): Visual tree map, couldn’t add images as I wanted due to lack of experience.
• Work Experience: An interactive table with company logos, job titles, responsibilities, duration, and location, supported by a timeline slicer for easy navigation.

Design & Approach

• Built on paper word and AI prompt and entirely in Power BI Desktop using inbuilt visuals for clarity and accessibility features, built custom layouts and backgrounds for a uniqueness.
• Implemented interactive navigation through bookmarks and slicers for a experience.
• Technologies used - PowerBi, DAX, MS Word, AI prompts.

Challenges and Lessons Learned

• What was tricky or unexpected?
  Designing a resume in Power BI required rethinking the structure of traditional CV data, organizing diverse elements - skills, certifications, projects, and timelines - without overwhelming the user. I could not connect report pages as expected.

• How did I solve it?
  I used bookmarks as navigation, ensuring each section felt like a dedicated page. Standard Power BI visuals were leveraged creatively to maintain simplicity while showing some location map for diverse experience.

• What would I improve next time?
  I would model data in beginning than adding columns later as required.

Why This Matters

This challenge allowed me to reimagine s resume as a data story - leveraging Power BI to present skills, and career progression in a way that is both insightful and interactive. I never looked at my story completely due to busy schedule.
