Community Manager
That is a fantastic initiative. Tamil Nadu has a thriving tech ecosystem (especially in hubs like Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai), but many specific cities still lack dedicated Azure Data communities.
Here is a step-by-step guide to launching your own Azure Data Tech Community, getting it officially recognized by Microsoft, and sustaining it.
You need a solid foundation before inviting members. Microsoft has specific requirements for their official community groups.
Find a Co-Leader:
Microsoft’s official "Azure Tech Groups" program requires a Leader and a Co-Leader (2 people minimum) to ensure the group survives if one person gets busy.
Action: Ask a colleague or friend passionate about data (SQL, Power BI, Fabric) to join you.
Choose a Platform:
Meetup.com is the standard platform used by almost all Microsoft user groups because it handles event scheduling and member management well.
LinkedIn Group: Create a companion LinkedIn group for discussions between events.
Naming: Use a clear name like "[Your City] Azure Data Community" or "Azure Data User Group [Your City]."
Draft a Code of Conduct:
To be officially recognized, your group must have a published Code of Conduct (CoC) visible to members. This ensures a safe environment for everyone.
Tip: You can adapt the standard Microsoft Community Code of Conduct.
You don't just want to be a random group; you want to be part of the official Azure Tech Groups network.
Apply for "Azure Tech Groups":
Once your Meetup page is live and you have your CoC, apply to the Azure Tech Groups program.
Requirements to stay active: You must host at least 6 meetings per year (one every two months).
Benefits: You get connection to Microsoft experts, early access to content, and sometimes support for meeting costs.
Join the "Azure Data Community Leaders Hub":
There is a specific hub on the Microsoft Tech Community for leaders like you called the Azure Data Community Leaders Hub.
Action: Join this to talk to other leaders in India (like those in Chennai or Bengaluru) who can help you find speakers.
