Hi Alexis,

Just for clarification. This is in excel.

For the purposes of this explanation I'm going to use the following labels:

File A

Query 1 (pulls from Query 2)

Query 2 (Connection Only that pulls from File B)

File B

Once I hit Refresh All on File A, Query 1 still had outdated info that did not match File B. When I went into Query 2 and hit Refresh Preview, Query 1 finally matched the info from File B.

Issue: When I hit Refresh All, the Connection Only queries don't seem to refresh.

Research: I've seen on some posts that the Connection Only queries only refresh when another query depends on it but this has not been the case for me. I hit Refresh All and have one specific query that pulls from a Connection Only query; however, that Connection Only query did not refresh.

Solution: The only solution I found is going into that Connection Only query and clicking Refresh Preview. However, this does not seem of a great way to streamline things.

Any suggestions?

How can you tell that the Connection Only query is not refreshing? Note that the query editor preview and a full refresh are two separate things.

Where is Query 2 referencing Query 1? In power query as new table? or is query 1 just a pivot table. I'm not able to reproduce the issue when Query1 is just a pivot table that uses Query2? I'm not able to reproduce the error either way. Can you check that you have "background refresh" and "Refresh this connection on Refresh All" enabled on your connection?

Hi, to the OP, use this link for solution if you are still looking for it or for anyone else. Simple steps are included on how to Refresh a Connection Only query

https://superuser.com/questions/1686576/power-query-issues-after-initial-run-of-the-query#:~:text=A%20connection%20only%20query%20will,the%20power%20pivot%20data%20model.&text=Select%20an%20appropriate%20destination%20for%20your%20query%20results.
