Hi i was suprised i could install pbi desktop without getting our cm dept to relax certain security restrictions.

How can i verify on maybe a weekly basis that its being updated automatically?

Hi, db042190
There are two ways to get the latest version of Power BI Desktop.

1. Download Center 2.Microsoft Store

If you install the program by running EXE from Download Center , each update requires you to manually download the latest program to update the version.

But if you get Power BI from the Microsoft Store, it will update automatically and admin privilege is not required.

i must have used the download from

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/desktop/ as my version hasnt changed. But from what i read this weekend, i need a specific version anyway since we will be using the on prem pbi reprt server. Is that still true and how do i know which/how to get a specific version that will be compatible with the on prem report server?
