Hi!

I have tried the gateway connection by entering the full string under Server and it works. But I am still confused by why it works fine with the TNS name when I use it for getting data to a Semantic Model but not when used in Copy data in a Pipeline.

Hi!

I am using an Gateway connection to Oracle in a Pipelin in Fabric and gets this error message: Test connection operation failed. Failed to open the Oracle database connection. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified.

The same gateway connection is used to get data import to Semantic models in fabric and is working fine in this case.

We are running the lastest version of the Gateway.

Regards

Fredrik

Hi FredrikJ

The error you're seeing — ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve the connect identifier specified — usually means the connection name can’t be found or isn’t recognized. This often comes down to something simple, like a typo in the connection string or a missing entry in the tnsnames.ora file.

Since the same gateway connection works fine for importing data into Semantic Models, it’s worth double-checking that the pipeline is using exactly the same connection settings. Sometimes even a small difference, like an extra space or different format, can cause this error.

Also, make sure the Oracle client and tnsnames.ora file on the gateway machine are correctly set up and can resolve the connection name used in the pipeline.
Regards,
Mehrdad Abdollahi

In addition, you can also try to check the gateway connection by entering the full string under Server:
You can also check the following-

Reference-

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/desktop-connect-oracle-database#connect-to-an-oracle-database-with-the-on-premises-data-gateway

If it still doesnt work, check out this solved similar query in the forum
Connect to Oracle Error - ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

Hope this helps!

If the response has addressed your query, please accept it as a solution so other members can easily find it.
Thank You
