Hi all,
We deleted a workspace, but the Fabric Capacity Metrics app still shows CU usage for that workspace, and the top consumer listed is an Eventstream.
What’s confusing is that Eventstream doesn’t appear in the supported item types for Item Recovery, so it seems like a non‑recoverable item.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/admin/retention-recovery#supported-item-types

So why would it still show up as consuming CUs after the workspace was deleted?
Is this expected because a deleted workspace stays in workspace retention for a period before it’s permanently removed?
If yes, what’s the correct way to stop the CU usage, do we need to permanently delete the workspace from the admin portal during the retention window?

Thanks,
Shreya

Hi Shreya_Barhate ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community forum.

When you delete a workspace, Fabric doesn't permanently remove it immediately. Instead, it enters a configurable retention period during which you can restore it. At the end of the retention period, Fabric permanently removes the workspace and irreversibly deletes its contents.

The default retention period for collaborative workspaces is seven days. You can change the retention period (from 7 to 90 days) by using the Define workspace retention period tenant setting in the admin portal.

Please follow these steps to permanently delete the workspace
While a deleted collaborative workspace is in a retention period, you can permanently delete it before the end of its retention period.

In the admin portal, open the Workspaces page and find the deleted collaborative workspace you want to permanently delete. Collaborative workspaces are of type Workspace. A workspace that is in a retention period has the status Deleted.

Select the workspace and then choose Permanently delete from the ribbon, or select More options and choose Permanently delete.

Fabric asks you to confirm the permanent deletion. After you confirm, the workspace and its contents are no longer recoverable.

Please permanently delete the workspace and then try checking the Fabric capacity metric app if it now correctly reflects the CU usage.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.
Thank you

<LI-CODE lang="markup">So why would it still show up as consuming CUs after the workspace was deleted?</LI-CODE>

CUs are smoothed over an extended period, 24 hours or more. Eventhouses will continue to churn through CUs even when the eventstream or the workspace is removed. Check again after 48 hours and raise a pro ticket if you still see CU consumption.
