In reality, it is a lot simpler than that.

Please see my previous answer:

For creating import mode (not direct lake):

https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/General-Discussion/fabric-data-warehouse/m-p/4018054/highl...

Please try following the steps in my comment (link) to connect to your Warehouse's SQL connection string from Power Query in Power BI desktop. Steps 1-7 should be sufficient, then select the tables you want, and click Load to load the data into your data model in Power BI desktop (or click Transform data, then Close and Apply).

Actually, the simplest way is the way described by Anonymous</LI-USER> here: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/General-Discussion/fabric-data-warehouse/m-p/3875169/highlight/true#M7079

In fact, you can directly create a new semantic model from data warehouse with table/views that you choose. Then you can share this created model to users to customize and edit based on their requirement.

Default Power BI semantic models - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn

Anonymous the method you describe will create a direct lake (or direct query) semantic model, isn't that right?

It is not possible to create an import mode semantic model by using the method you describe?

Yes, this method create model seems still in the direct lake model.

If you want a semantic model with import mode, you can try to export these data to csv. Then you can create a new semantic model based on these files.
