Unable to Share New Office 365 Email Fabric Connection

Hi,

The new Office 365 Email Fabric Connection that is required to run a new Office 365 Email in an activity cannot be shared. I get that should be the case for OAuth authentication connections with individual user accounts, but we are using a service account. I have also tried setting up using Service principal, this cannot be shared either.

New Office 365 Email Activity

This causes us issues becasue we are using git and branched workspaces. If a connection is not shared then when people branch out their workspace cannot load any artifact connections that are not shared. Hence, why we are still using the old Email activities. I've just noticed today that the old Email activity is no longer available in pipeline activitiy options. When will the legacy version be going? And before it goes, will there be any updates to the new Email connection to make it sharable? Or are there any other options.

Hi @caseybks,

I just confirmed in my environment that I am also unable to share these connections. I am the Fabric Admin so this is unrelated to privilleges or access.

This seems to be an environment limitation, or an intentional design choice from the Fabric team.

I recommend you submit an idea for this here: Fabric Ideas - Microsoft Fabric Community

In the meantime, it seems each of your developers will need their own connection and they will need to re-map them every time they branch out to a new workspace.

@tayloramy Thank you for testing. Yes, I will have to submit an ideal and hope its on their dev roadmap already.

This definitly seems a step backwards compared to the legacy version 😞

Hi @caseybks,

I can see both sides, I get how it would be nice to not need to remap these every time you branch out, however I also see what Microsoft was trying to do with security, and not allowing one user to access another's mailbox through fabric.
I wonder if there's a way to send emails with a service principal and use service principals going forward? Though not sure how licensing would work for that as service principals don't have esxchange licenses.

@tayloramy Yes, they have introduced a service principal option for this type of connection which I though would be an improvement, but that cannot be shared either.

Also in the connection drop down options in the activity, it is visible, but cannot be selected.

Yeah, the not being able to share it is the problem. I hope they address this and allow service principal connections to be shared.
