topic Notebook in a pipeline all of a sudden I have an empty connection and it doesnt work in Data Engineering

What is going on with Microsoft Fabric?

Last week I added a notebook to a Pipeline with parameterised Workspace ID and Notebook ID. But today I go in And there is a connection which is blank so it doesnt work any more.

I 'think' its because you now have to set up a service principal. But here is the problem. I am not an admin in Azure. Im not allowed to be and our Admin team dont see Fabric as a priority so this could take forever to do (I may not even get it)

Im trying really hard to show what fabric can do but when this kind of thing happens it really blocks you.

So I would like to know if this has been changed (So I know Im not going mad) and if Microsoft understands that this assumes a close working relationship with admin in order to just get on and create something. And alot of us may not have this. If you are simply demoing fabric to try and get it deployed into projects, it just basically may not be a priority for them.

Hi DebbieE,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

It looks like the pipeline connection is showing blank because the identity or permissions used earlier are not valid now. Recently, for some pipeline connections, Fabric needs a service principal. Since normal users cannot create a service principal, Azure admin help is required for this.

Before involving the admin team, you can try these basic checks:
Please check if you still have access to the workspace and the notebook and Try deleting and re-creating the connection using your own login once.If this still does not work, then your admin team will need to set up the service principal.

Kindly refer to the below documentation links for better understanding:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/fabric/data-factory/service-principals

Hope the above provided information help you resolve the issue, if you have any further concerns or queries, please feel free to reach out to us.
Regards,
Community Support Team.

We're also experiencing this in our Fabric workspace.

Hi BruceSysAd,

Thanks for letting us know. If the same issue is happening in your workspace too, then it’s likely related to permissions or the connection not picking up the correct identity.

Can you please check once if your access to the workspace and notebook is still the same? Also try creating the connection again and see if it behaves the same way.

If it still doesn’t work, then your admin team may need to look at the service principal or permissions from their side.

If you can share a screenshot of what you are seeing without any sensitive details, it will help us understand the issue better.

Regards,
Community Support Team.
