“Anything Tableau can do..” #1 – Sales Pipeline Template

One of the biggest differences in the worlds of Tableau and Power BI is the abundance of design ideas in Tableau when it comes to finding inspiration or templates etc. and the dearth of the same in Power BI. This is especially true when it comes to business dashboards. In an effort to bridge this gap somewhat, I plan to take some of the most popular Tableau business dashboards and recreate them from scratch in Power BI (visuals, DAX calculations, data model, etc.).

The first in this series is the Sales Pipeline dashboard, created originally by Anathan in Tableau. Apart from being a highly practical design, it is also very well built with its layout and the color themes. The final Power BI product that I created uses ZERO custom visuals and only out of the box standard Power BI visuals. Had to use some DAX calculations and some other tricks to replicate the Tableau product as closely as possible.

Disclaimer – I am aware of the fact that what Tableau can and Power BI can’t do (in terms of pure visualization) can probably fill a book. But I do believe this gap is lesser when it comes to business dashboards. As such, the title of this series - “Anything Tableau can do..” - is aimed more at pushing the PowerBI community towards creating more refined Business dashboards rather than being a purely factual statement. 😊
