Hi All,

Is it possible to use DirectQuery to a Oracle instance use the report on PowerBI report Server 03-2018?

It connects when the report is opened locally but not on the server. The following error is shown:
    Something went wrong

We couldn't run the report because we couldn't connect to its data source. The report or data source might not be configured correctly.
Please try again later or contact support. If you contact support, please provide these details.

We couldn't connect to the Analysis Services server.

Hi,

We had a similar issue when testing recently. The solution for us was to use 'Import' instead then upload it to the Report Server. Have you tried import to see if that works?

Cheers

Ed

Hi Ed,

Thank you for your suggestion.

With the option set on 'Import' it's not a problem. But we want to show the report on the SSRS server.

When we do not use DirectQuery mode, the data is not updated untill someone updates it manually on their local machine and re-uploads the report.

We wish to use DirectQuery mode.

With import mode you can setup automatic scheduled refreshes - you don't need to re-upload the report.

You will however need to enter credentials that can connect to your data source in order to refresh the data, and I suspect you'll run into the same issue which is stopping you from using direct query.

Re your DirectQuery issue, have you definately configured credentials in the management screen for your report and connected successfully to Oracle?

Hi jcollinson,

I've completely overlooked the management possibilities on the SSRS side. It turns out I needed to setup the credentials there again despite they are already set in the report.

Thank you for your guidance!
