Gantt 3.0.12.0 Visual blurry on Report Server

Hi,

I am using Gantt 3.0.12.0 and it is working fine on Desktop. However when viewing on Report Server the visual is quite blurry. This blur disappears when in Focus Mode, however I would like it to be visually clear outside of this.

The issue you’re seeing with Gantt 3.0.12.0 appearing blurry in Power BI Report Server (PBIRS) but displaying clearly in Power BI Desktop or in Focus Mode is a known rendering limitation specific to custom visuals in PBIRS. When a custom visual is displayed in the standard (non-focus) mode, Report Server often scales or rasterizes the visual as an image to optimize performance and compatibility, particularly when using older or uncertified visuals. This scaling process reduces the resolution and causes the blurry appearance you notice. However, when you switch to Focus Mode, PBIRS renders the visual in full vector quality, which eliminates the blur. Unfortunately, there’s no setting within Report Server to change this behavior globally.

To improve clarity, you can try a few workarounds: first, ensure that you’re using the latest certified version of the Gantt visual compatible with Report Server (uncertified visuals tend to render at lower quality). You can also reduce browser zoom or adjust visual dimensions in your report layout to minimize scaling distortion. Some users have also found that using Edge or Chrome with hardware acceleration enabled improves rendering sharpness slightly. However, as of now, PBIRS does not fully support high-DPI vector rendering for custom visuals outside Focus Mode — this limitation is tied to the Report Server’s static rendering pipeline.

What version of RS are you using?

This “blurry unless in Focus mode” behavior is (unfortunately) pretty common for custom visuals on Power BI Report Server. It usually happens when the canvas is being scaled (browser zoom, “Fit to page/width”, Windows display scaling, or a visual sized to fractional pixels)

This behavior is a known limitation related to how Power BI Report Server renders certain custom visuals. When viewed in the regular report canvas, visuals like Gantt 3.0.12.0 can appear slightly blurry because Report Server uses image-based rendering rather than full vector rendering. That’s why it looks sharp in Focus Mode or on Power BI Desktop (which use a different rendering engine).

Recommended Steps to Improve Clarity:

1) Set Browser Zoom to 100%: Blurriness often occurs when zoom is less than or greater than 100%.

2) Update Browser and Report Server: Upgrade to the latest Chromium-based browser (Chrome or Edge) and ensure your Power BI Report Server is up to date. Microsoft confirmed fixes in newer browser builds.

3) Adjust Report View Settings: Use Fit to Page or Actual Size in Report Server to avoid scaling issues.

4) Update the Gantt Visual: Make sure you’re using the latest version of the Gantt visual from AppSource. Older versions have rendering bugs.

5) Check DPI and Display Scaling: High-DPI monitors and custom scaling can cause blurriness. Set display scaling to 100% for best results.

FYI, I had this same issue and tried all the same troubleshoots I saw in this forum & others. What worked for me was removing the rounded corners from the Gantt visual 😑 that's all it was. I spent hours publishing & republishing the same visual to isolate the issue, and for me, it came to using rounded corners in the visual border.

Maybe this exact fix will work for you, but if not, I highly recommend playing around with the styling/effects you've applied to your visual and maybe toggling some of those off will fix the blurriness.
