Problem when upgrading to the May/2025 of the Report Server

Hi folks,

We are using the Jan/25 RS version and it works fine. When we try to upgrade to the May/25 version, we can't publish any reports. The error seems like the same one that happens when you try to publish with mismatched versions of RS and Desktop, but we are using the right one.

Has anyone faced the same issue?

Thank you for reaching out to the community. After upgrading to the May 2025 Report Server release, which turned out to be caused by a version mismatch even though we believed we had the correct Power BI Desktop version.

Here some checks to resolve this.

The May 2025 release is build 15.0.1118.126, but some setups may have 15.0.1118.134. If your Desktop version doesn’t exactly match, publishing can fail.
Use the Download PBID link from your Report Server portal to ensure you get the right version.
Remove any other Power BI Desktop installations, especially the Microsoft Store version, to avoid conflicts.
Open your report in the correct Desktop, save it, and then try publishing again to resolve compatibility issues.

After these steps, publishing worked for us. I hope this helps with your setup as well. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the answer. Where can I download build 15.0.1118.126? We are currently using build 15.0.1118.134, and the error is happening even if we download the Desktop version through the link in the Report Server.

Thanks for the update. If the Download PBID link is giving you build 15.0.1118.134, that just means your Report Server has a newer patch than the release notes (126) totally normal, Microsoft does that often.

A couple of things you can still try

Check the Report Server build (in Config Manager or the portal footer) and make sure it also shows 134 then you know Desktop and Server are in sync.
Remove any other Power BI Desktop installs since multiple versions can clash.
If possible, try publishing from a clean machine or clear the Desktop cache.
Check the RS logs for more detailed errors.

If none of that works, it might be a regression in the latest patch in that case, best bet is to raise a support ticket with Microsoft.
