Hello,

I have been having trouble with my somatic model. It has a live connection to an excel sheet that I update daily and then manually refresh the model. For the past few days I have recieved an error code stating does not exist. I have not moved my spreadsheet location or changed any permissions, so I am unsure why I am receiving this error. When I got to manage connections and gateways, the data source shows offline.

Additionally, when I go to the manage connections and gateways tab, I receive the below error banner. I believe this may be the sourece of my issues, but I am unsure how to resolve it. I have tried logging out then logging back in, clearing my browser cache and excel cache, and restarting my computer.

Error Message on manage connection and gateways page:

Unable to authenticate for GRAPH service. Please contact Microsoft support if this issue persists.

Details: Please have this information handy if you choose to create a support ticket.

🔍 Diagnosing the Issues

These problems are likely connected, stemming from issues with your On-premises Data Gateway, which facilitates communication between Power BI Service and your local Excel file.

1. Gateway Status: Offline

Even if the gateway service appears to be running on your machine, it might not be properly connected to the Power BI Service. This can happen due to:

Network interruptions

Expired credentials

Software updates or changes

2. GRAPH Service Authentication Failure

This error suggests that Power BI is unable to authenticate with Microsoft's Graph service, which is essential for managing user identities and permissions. This could be due to:

Expired or invalid credentials

Issues with the gateway's configuration

Changes in your organization's security policies

🛠️ Recommended Solutions

Step 1: Restart the Gateway Service

Open the Services application on your computer.

Locate On-premises data gateway service.

Right-click and select Restart.

After restarting, check the gateway status in Power BI Service.

Step 2: Update Gateway Credentials

In Power BI Service, navigate to Settings > Manage Gateways.

Select your gateway and click on the associated data source.

Click Edit Credentials and re-enter the necessary authentication details.

Ensure that the credentials have the appropriate permissions to access the Excel file.

Step 3: Verify Excel File Path

Confirm that the path to your Excel file hasn't changed and that the file is accessible from the machine where the gateway is installed. If the file is on a network drive, ensure that the drive is mapped correctly and that the gateway service account has access to it.

Step 4: Reinstall or Update the Gateway

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, consider reinstalling or updating the On-premises Data Gateway:

Download the latest version from the official Power BI Gateway page.

Run the installer and follow the prompts to update or reinstall the gateway.

Step 5: Contact Microsoft Support

If the problem persists, it's advisable to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance. You can open a support ticket through the Power Platform Admin Center.

For more detailed troubleshooting steps, refer to the official documentation: Troubleshoot gateways - Power BI.

✔️ If my message helped solve your issue, please mark it as Resolved!

👍 If it was helpful, consider giving it a Kudos!
