PowerBI Pro licenses

We have been developing PBI reports for years now and have always used the Report Server on premise. In order to publish the reports we have some PowerBi Pro licenses.

We are investigating what it would entail if we would migrate to the cloud and use PowerBI.com the online platform instead of PBIRS.

Since we already have the Pro licenses we thought that we could log on to powerbi.com and try it out (publish a report for instance) but unfortunately we get a message saying "You have selected MS Fabric Free. Your organisation does not allow users to get Microsoft Fabric free."

Any advice or thoughts on this?

Previously, when you purchased a Premium SKU subscription you would get Power BI Report Server for free. You may have gotten it as part of the SQL Server license in your company.

To use Fabric features you will have to purchase an F SKU. No idea if that will continue to include Power BI Report Server - or even if Microsoft will still support it once they go all in on Fabric.

Power BI is part of Fabric. Although your organization has turned off the functionality of Fabric, you can still sign in to Power BI instead of Fabric:

<LI-CODE lang="markup">https://app.powerbi.com/home?experience=power-bi</LI-CODE>

Below is Fabric login:

<LI-CODE lang="markup">https://app.fabric.microsoft.com/</LI-CODE>

When anyone logs in to Fabric, if it doesn't have a Fabric license, the Register Fabric free license page pops up.
A fabric free license isn't required to use Power BI.

Best Regards

Thank you Jiangpeng and lbendlin,

Yes that's right we got our PBRS licence together with the SQL Server license. We do not want to use Fabric at this point in time; only Powerbi Pro. When I try to log in on the app.powerbi.com I am redirected to the Fabric url and get this message: "you have selected Fabric Free. Contact your IT department to get a free licence". I can't seem to reach the powerbi site.

I totally understand your mood and needs. Let me see if your account is assigned a pro license in the Azure admin portal:

<LI-CODE lang="markup">https://admin.microsoft.com/</LI-CODE>

After my testing, I can log in to Power BI Service directly when I have a pro license.

Our IT admnistrator and I have figured it out. It turned out quite easy in the end. Apparently, the licenses were not assigned to the right Active Directory group.
