Migrating from Reports Server to Pro/ Premium

The current senario: Have Power BI Reports on the Report Server that are configured to be accessible/ viewable via three different Dashboards using Share Point as the interface. Each Dashboard and reports residing are controlled by permissions set at the AD level and in Share Point.

Looking for ideas on how to transition the reports to Power BI Premium (via Service).

Is it possible to create sub workspaces with different permissions? Design ideas of the Interface would be welcome.

Your request looks like using Power BI Apps. It is a way to distribute content from a workspace to different groups of people. They go to the App instead of the workspace. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/end-user-apps

If you need to migrate Power BI reports from Report Server to Power BI Service to implement permission control, you can use the following methods:
1. Configure an RLS for your reports. Then apply the RLS rules in Power BI Service.

2. Develop any workspace roles that are different for the report.

3. Use Workspace apps to distribute to your audience. Here you can set the visibility of the report page for different audiences.

4. If you want to fine-grained control the permissions of each user for each report, you can also configure the corresponding permissions for the semantic model and the report.

About Power BI Report server how to migrate reports to Power BI service. All you need to do is publish the report you need to migrate to Power BI Service in the portal.

Hello Jianpeng Li, thanks for the detailed response. We are in the begining phases of the design phase and will be migrating in the next quarter. This was in preparation for the migration. I will definitely accept as Solution when the implementation is completed. I appreciate your prompt response.
