Hello guys,

I have 3 measures I added on a line chart in Power BI report server desktop. Anytime i published, all the line will display but after some minutes the black line (available cash) will disappear.

This is on Power BI Report Server Desktop

so after some minutes publishing this is how it will look

What could have been the cause? Anyone experienced this before?

Thanks for the help

Hi,Mubar .I am glad to help you.
It looks like you are experiencing issues with MEASURES disappearing when saving the problem reports to the power BI Report Server web portal.
I observed that one of the measure disappeared, but its legend (Available Cash in the top left corner) remained.
This is indeed rather strange
Here are my suggestions:
1. Please try to recreate a measure with the same effect with updated measure name to be placed in the line chart
and modify it appropriately, e.g. Available Cash2= Available Cash (same calculation code)
The purpose of this is to check the data source on the Report Server to make sure that the data used by Available Cash has not been changed, lost or filtered out.
Check that the two measures will not disappear at the same time, only the legend is displayed.
2. Try to change Available Cash to other calculation logic. For example, Available Cash=500M (change it to a fixed value).
Check the status of Available Cash and Available Cash2 at this time (will both measures disappear)
See if the problem is only with the [Available Cash] measure itself or with the way the Available Cash measure is written (both measures go away)

3. Try to use other types of line graph visual to present your three measures to see if it solves the problem (or other types of visual such as bar graphs).

4. Check that the data types set in your measures are consistent with the other measures, try to make sure that the data types are set correctly and are consistent.
For the above attempts I suggest you save the original pbix file as a new test file and try the above operations to compare with the original pbix file.

5. Try clearing your browser cache, logging back into Power BI Report Server, deleting the original pbix file from the web portal and uploading it again from Desktop (RS).

Ensure that the data source credentials are set correctly

If the problem persists after the above test, please try to update your Power BI Desktop (RS) and the corresponding Report Server
Web potal version (please pay attention to the version of pbix you originally created to ensure the compatibility of the reporting function between versions).
Perform a data backup before attempting to update the version to avoid file data loss and unavailability.
Please show the version number of your power BI Desktop(RS) and Power BI Report Server, this will help you to find out the possible issues.

Hi Anonymous

Thanks for your suggestion, I tried couple of things listed out here and it doesn't work.
I guess the issue is because of the automated refresh issue, the other measure data source refreshes and update daily, but for the available cash, it's update weekly (the date is not broke down daily as others like Revenue or Rev Target). I think that's the reason of the dissappearance.

Hi,Mubar .Thank you for your reply.
In fact, I still think it's rather strange:
Here's my advice on it:
For Power BI Report, even if the data source is refreshed at a different frequency, the report will still link to the data source and fetch the current data (when performing Scheduled Refresh in import mode). Therefore, even if the ‘Available Cash’ data source is not updated, the report should still show the old data, and there will not be a case where the legend is shown but the actual data is not shown, unless there is really no data in the data source (the data source is empty).
You mentioned that the suggestions above did not improve the situation, is your current problem only with the current report, also have you tried using another version of report server.
Also to check your guess. I would suggest you to create additional test pbix files to ensure that both data sources are refreshed at the same frequency and see if you can display the reports properly.

Try using different types of visualisations (e.g. bar charts, line graphs, etc.) for the Available Cash data to see if the same problem exists in other visualisations.
Check the version you are using: Make sure the versions of Power BI Desktop and Power BI Report Server are compatible, sometimes version incompatibility may cause some unexpected problems.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
Best Regards,
Carson Jian,
If this post helps, then please consider Accept it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
