Hi,

I randomly get this error for different reports, on different Report Servers.

2022-05-23 23:43:09.3022|ERROR|56|Error Processing Data Model Refresh: SessionId: d1315eb6-7937-4656-80b8-5d586c6d5e9e, Status: Error Failed to refresh the model, Exception Microsoft.AnalysisServices.OperationException: Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'DataSource.Error: ODBC: ERROR [08S01] error:00000005:lib(0):func(0):DH lib. DataSourceKind = Odbc. DataSourcePath = dsn=OneData. OdbcErrors = #table({"SQLState", "NativeError", "Message"}, {}). ;ODBC: ERROR [08S01] error:00000005:lib(0):func(0):DH lib. The exception was raised by the IDbCommand interface.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot 08S01 -Communication link failure sql ?

The ODBC DSN connects to Tibco Data Virtualization which has a an Oracle Data Source the data is queried from.

We have not received any feedback from other users who have had the same experience as you, are you using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server?

Thanks. The Power BI Reports throwing this error connect to different data sources via Tibco Data Virtualization ODBC driver.

I enabled the error trace on the ODBC DSN and captured this:

5/30/2022 6:44:07 4e94.21e0 SSL_read: buf=000001E24E2970F0, posBeforeRead=0, remaining=16000, pending=0, retCode=-1, SSLErrorCode=SSL_ERROR_SYSCALL, SSLErrorString=error:00000005:lib(0):func(0):DH lib, sysErrorno=10035, sysErrorMessage=A non-blocking socket operation could not be completed immediately.

5/30/2022 6:44:07 4e94.21e0 Failure with channel [Exception: error:00000005:lib(0):func(0):DH lib] at "C:\dev\tools\cygwin\home\qa\build\release-8.0.0\cis\src\odbc\build\driver_x64\cpp\cs\odbc\driver\protocol\SSLEngine.cpp:574".

Anyway , it seems to be more of a communication issue between Tibco Data Virtualization server and Power BI server that may be actually caused by Tibco DV . I will close this post .
