Issue with uploading report to Power BI Report Server

Hi experts,

I am using Power BI Report Server (May 2021). I tried to upload a report .pbix file with 450MB size to the server several times but got issues. When it finished uploading, there was no Success notification as normal. The "Saving .... to Power BI Report Server" just disappeared and I go to the report server and not see my report on the server.

As I said, I tried several times. Sometimes, I see my report appears on the report server, though I cannot setup a scheduled refresh job as I am not able to click on Data sources. The report just merely uses a single SQL Server 2019 database as its data source.

As I checked the log files on the server, I saw this
ERROR|13|library|Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ItemNotFoundException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.ItemNotFoundException: The item 'xxx' cannot be found.;| RequestID = s_51052eed-3ef7-4f33-83d5-81cadcdb2db5

Could anyone help on this?

P.S. This issue does not occur when I upload a small report file, 10MB for example.

Since that "this issue does not occur when I upload a small report file, 10MB for example.", try to increase the "MaxFileSizeMb" limit in the Report Server settings in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).

Large file upload/download

You can upload files up to 2 GB in size, though by default this limit is set to 1 GB in the Report Server settings in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). These files are stored in the database just as they are for SharePoint, and no special configuration for the SQL Server catalog is required.

Thank you. I am able to see it now. I just doubt that the .pbix file size it's the problem. The .pbix file size is 450MB which is quite far from the max size (1000MB). Can you please help me better undetstand?

Hi kitti ,

To my understanding, 1000 MB limit for MaxFileSizeMb is not really 1000 MB for file size. Because we need other memory to run the queries. Then, more memory is needed. And Anonymous explained in detail here: Re: PBI Report Server - data size limitation: - Microsoft Power BI Community.
